Not all projects I have been involved in are technical. This is some of the non-programming projects I have been in.

Projects I particularly like getting involved in are voluntary community projects, which I seem to be invited to think and fast! The success at the end is always the best part to see and I try and get involved where my expertise fit in.

You may see other mentions of community groups in other areas of this website....

Lichfield Locality Childrens' Conference

Conference held in Lichfield to find ways to promote the well being of children and young people in the district. Eighty representatives from children's services came to the Lichfield Garrick to take part in the annual Children and Young People's Conference on Wednesday 29 January.

Lichfield District Youth Forum and Lichfield Locality Children's Trust Board - of which Lichfield District Council is a key partner - invited the lead players in children's services from across the county to the Garrick to stress the importance of youth participation and to celebrate young people's achievements.

In the morning delegates heard presentations on the four priorities the Lichfield Locality Children's Trust Board has identified as the most pertinent for Lichfield District to improve the well being of young people. These include: preventing adverse risk taking behaviour, housing and homelessness, domestic violence, and encouraging participation in positive activities.

Among the presenters were young people from the DITCH project - a peer education project supported by Staffordshire Youth Service.

Delegates also had the opportunity to network and take part in group activities. In the afternoon they were treated to a special rap by Mikey McCheyne, a spot of DJing and MCing by George Douglas, and three songs by the Garrick Youth Choir.

The conference was finished off by a round up of many of the positive activities that are going on for young people across the district - such as Burntwood Init and North Lichfield Initiative's Goodbye to Summer Lantern Parade.

Nina Dawes, Chair of the Lichfield Locality Children's Trust Board, said: "We have a duty to promote the well being of children and young people in our district, and this conference was an opportunity for all our partners to come together to share their experiences and to find out what we will be focusing on in the future. I am delighted it proved so popular. It shows so much dedication to the young people of the district. I would like to thank all of the performers who kept all of the guests entertained. It was a wonderful showcase of our talented young people. I'd also like to thank all the partners who helped all the young people put on such a fantastic day."

The entire event was compered by me, and young people were involved in planning the programme and also helped throughout the day.

Lesson one in programming security

Hacked questionaireOne of the biggest problems with programming security, according to a recent report is that programmers try and implement server security on the client machine, and here is a perfect example of why you don't do this!

Let me set the scene: Your stuck in a hot classroom on a Thursday afternoon (no college friday!) and you have been given a questionnaire to download and complete. You have been told there is a prize for the first person to finish and you can all go home. Do you do the questionnaire or just hack the code and go home?

Well as you can probably tell by this bit of code, the latter was the option and with a quick bit of javascript modification to make it fill in the correct answer rather than clearing the square if it is wrong the answers get filled in pretty quickly! After finishing claiming my prize and everyone wandering how I did it so quickly, You just modify the code a bit more to give a better congratulations message and submit a score of 110% to the computer, which believe it or not puts me at the top of the class. College can be bliss!

Resonate Lichfield

Resonate Lichfield

Another amazing christian event with live band, amazing speakers and an amazing group. This bi-monthly event is always something to look forward to with its incredible preachers and loud music.

My job within the event is technical, mainly on screen announcements and lyrics which proves to be more of a challenge than you would expect. Always great fun though and very rewarding.

Soul Street - Lighting

Soul Street

Soul street is a Christian soul event, designed for non christians. It is set up like a coffee shop with newspapers with many acts including Functional youth funk band and individuals.

Equipped with newspapers, this relaxed evening fully explains the meaning of an all aged event.

My particular involvement is in the technical side and stage lighting which I thoroughly enjoy doing. I like to experiment with lighting effects each time, trying to do something slightly different. There are some setups I prefer more than others.

With the move to the Lichfield room of Wade Street Church it is a totally new experience completely. The picture to the right shows you the first time setup, which proved very successful.
